How deep is the damage caused by molestation?

We see it these days in every headline, every newscast. Someone comes forward claiming to have been improperly touched by a boss, a spouse, a family member, a teacher, a coach, a colleague, a date.

It’s a remarkable upheaval, considering how silent our culture was on this subject until just a few months ago.

Americans like simple problems that have simple solutions. But these issues of sexuality, criminality, and deep, life-marring psychological trauma do not yield to easy solutions.

The problem is exacerbated by the social struggle of the vulnerable – children, women, people low down in the power hierarchy – against those who use their power to get what they want. And then expect their actions to be forgotten, or sealed in a court order.

What we are seeing is a revolutionary movement to change that power equation, by speaking out, by risking the humiliation of telling one’s story, and holding the powerful to account.

Careers are being toppled by these disclosures and charges. It is important that people understand that this movement is not just about movie stars – that this push toward justice must be for everyone.

Our core value

Seeking justice is also resistant to easy solutions. But our practice has made it a core value to provide legal leverage to those who have been intimidated and abused.

Despite statutes of limitations, despite nondisclosure agreements, despite all the ways society effectively tells victims to suffer in silence, justice – and the satisfaction of speaking your truth – is still attainable.

We want to hear your story.
